Visual Resources for the Lectionaries

This post offers visual resources for the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for the fourth week of Lent, March 10, 2024. The RCL is all about the bronze serpent in the wilderness. Jesus tells Nicodemus that the Son of Man will be lifted up just like Moses lifted up the serpent in Numbers. The NL continues Mark’s version of Jesus in the Temple in the days before his execution. He is asked, “What is the greatest commandment?”

Narrative Lectionary

The reading this week is Mark 12:28–44. This is Jesus’ third day in the Temple. A scribe asks him, “What is the greatest commandment.” They both agree that it is to love God with a whole heart, and to love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus then proceeds to show how the scribes don’t actually demonstrate this with their lives. The tree is not bearing fruit.

Compare this to Matthew 22 and Luke 10.
