It is important to note that Jesus did not abolish the Law of Moses (Matthew 5:17). Jesus’ mission is to remind the Children of Israel of their original calling. Abraham’s family was blessed to be a blessing to all nations.
Notice the commands Jesus chooses. The first is Deuteronomy 6:4-5. The second is Leviticus 19:18. It is fascinating that neither of these laws come from the Ten Commandments.
It is not too much of a stretch to say that Jesus reduced the Laws of God to this:
Love God
Love Neighbor
As Paul put it, “the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13).”
