We met John the Baptist in the prologue. It is significant to note that the story of John the Baptist is included in all four Gospels. See the comparative images below.

There are two unique aspects to John’s story according to the Gospel of John (yes, two John’s is confusing). 

First, John’s Gospel does not record the actual baptism of Jesus. Instead, John the Baptist testifies what he witnessed at Jesus’ baptism.

Second, Jesus’ first disciples were disciples of John the Baptist. This calling narrative demonstrates the passing of the baton from John the Baptist to Jesus.
