Acts 19-20
Paul’s missionary journey come to an end. After a quick visit back to Antioch and a tour through the first churches in Galatia, Paul finally realizes his dream and sets up a base of operation in Ephesus. From this centralized city Paul was able to spend between two and three years demonstrating God’s power, teaching and instructing disciples in the Way, and planting churches through his disciples in all the cities in the outlying region.
After his work was done in Ephesus, Paul set his eyes on Jerusalem and determined to collect a financial offering from all the churches in the region in order to bring aid to the famine-stricken Jerusalem. Paul traveled through Macedonia and Achaia, visiting his churches and taking up the collection. He intended to sail directly from Corinth to Caesarea, but a plot to kill him forced him to turn around and retrace his steps through Macedonia. After stopping in Troas and the coast off of Ephesus, Paul and his multicultural traveling party set sail for Caesarea.
In this section we will see Paul experience the extremes of ministry. At one point he experienced great heights of power and glory as the Holy Spirit heals people and teaches people through him. Then, in the same city a riot rises up against him and he has to leave. Such is the way of ministry. We can learn a great deal through the roller coaster ride that Paul endured and observe how he maintained focus through it all.
The Apostle Paul wrote the letters to the Corinthians during this section of Acts. He had heard disturbing things about their conduct and was preparing them for his visit.
Acts 2023 Project
During the summer of 2023 I am illustrating the book of Acts as a graphic novel. Return often to view the updated pages below. I will post the thumbnails and then replace them with the finished pages as they emerge. Enjoy!
