While Paul was under house arrest in Rome, he met a young runaway slave named Onesimus and led him to Christ. When Paul discovered that Onesimus was from the household of Philemon, a man that was a member of Paul’s church in Ephesus, he decided to call in a few favors and try to get Onesimus reinstated into his household. This letter demonstrates that, in Christ, we can have reconciliation in broken relationships and that all people are of equal value, regardless of their social status.
