Jesus’ Mission | Visual Resources for Both Lectionaries on February 4, 2024
Visual Resources for the Lectionaries
This post offers visual resources for the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for February 4, 2024. This is the Fifth Sunday of Epiphany. The RCL takes us to the story where Jesus heals many and then begins his traveling ministry in Mark 1. The NL continues the journey through Mark with the sending of the twelve and the beheading of John in Mark 6.
Jesus’ mission is to go throughout the country both proclaiming the message of the Kingdom and healing the sick, possessed, and dispossessed.

Narrative Lectionary
The NL continues its journey through the Gospel of Mark with Mark 6:1-29. This passage is a missional sandwich with rejection bread. Jesus is rejected in his hometown. Then, in verses 14-28, he is rejected by Herod, the puppet king. Right in the middle Jesus sends the twelve to proclaim the Good News throughout the region.
