Visual Resources for the Lectionaries

This post offers visual resources for the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for January 28, 2024.  This is the Fourth Sunday of Epiphany. The RCL takes us to the story where Jesus frees a man from a demon in the Synagogue in Mark 1. The NL continues the journey through Mark with the healing of two women in Capernaum in Mark 5.

This week we continue to see that Jesus has the power to heal people and restore them to wholeness and community. This is the work of the Gospel.

Narrative Lectionary

The NL continues its journey through the Gospel of Mark with Mark 5:21-43. This story picks up immediately from last week. Jesus leaves the Gerasene region and returns to Capernaum. An important religious official begs Jesus to heal his daughter, and an outcast, unclean woman boldly touches Jesus to be healed. Here is a lesson of how Jesus deals with social location and brings equity and healing to community.

Compare this to Matthew 8 and Luke 8.

Coloring Page

I’m experimenting with a new idea this week. Would you be interested to have A Cartoonist’s Guide to Mark as a coloring book? You can download the PDF, print it out, and hand it to the families as they enter worship.

What do you think?
