Advent 1 | Hope | Visual Resources for Both Lectionaries on December 3, 2023
Visual Resources for the Lectionaries
This post offers visual resources for the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary for December 3, 2023. This is the first week of Advent. We light the candle of HOPE. The RCL takes us to Isaiah, Psalms, 1 Corinthians, and Mark to offer texts of waiting and watching for the coming Messiah. The NL takes us to Jeremiah were we see another depiction of the Messiah as a shoot of Jesse emerging from the stump of Judah.

A Special Invitation
This Advent I will offer a livestream contemplative art experience on YouTube. Each Tuesday at 7:00pm CST I will spend an hour creating a unique piece of art based on the theme of that week. If you join me live you will be able to chat with me to make comments or ask questions. You are also invited to create your own artwork as a contemplative practice while I create mine. All are welcome!

Narrative Lectionary
The NL takes us to the story of Jeremiah and his message of hope in Jeremiah 33:14-18.
The Narrative Lectionary takes us to the prophet Jeremiah this week. His is one of the most tragic stories in the Bible. Jeremiah lived to see the destruction of Jerusalem and watched the Babylonians carry off his people into Exile. He was taken to Egypt and never heard from again.
Yet, in the midst of all the despair, Jeremiah offers hope. He paints a picture similar to the vision we saw in Isaiah 11. One day God will restore Jerusalem and the people of God’s Promise will live in righteousness and justice and be the blessing to the nations that God called them to be.
This season, we wait for hope.
