Jesus had a mission to proclaim the Commonwealth of the Heavens (Kingdom of God) had come near. He did this by healing the sick, crossing cultural boundaries, and speaking truth to power. We see him demonstrate this mission in Matthew 8-9 and then send his disciples to do the same thing in chapter 10.
